Marlea Willis is a dynamic, goal-oriented communications and publicity professional with a solid background leading high-profile media campaigns in the entertainment industry geared to the global, national and regional marketplace. Throughout her 20+ career, Marlea has held executive positions at Allied Global Marketing, EPIX, AMC Networks, A+E and The Biography Channel. Recently, as a communications specialist she has generated superior media coverage that has positively supported docuseries campaigns for POV’s first miniseries, AND SHE COULD BE NEXT, directed by Grace Lee and Marjan Safinia and executive produced by Ava DuVernay, and BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY executive produced by Nina Yang Bongiovi & Forest Whitaker, Significant Productions, and Keith McQuirter, Decoder Media and the VR/XR experience THE CHANGING SAME; AN AMERICAN PILGRIMAGE by lead artists lead artists Michèle Stephenson and Joe Brewster Rada Studio and Yasmin Elayat , Scatter and executive produced by POV Spark and The Fledgling Fund. She expanded her skill set to include festival outreach when she was the Festival Public Relations Manager for the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival where she led a team of six publicists who implemented and executed publicity campaigns for more than 100 narrative, documentary and shorts films. In addition, Marlea oversaw all publicity efforts for the 35 VR/XR installations presented at Tribeca Immersive and Cinema360, a VR/AR/mixed media installation featuring 35 immersive projects. Other festival work includes leading publicity campaigns for projects featured at the Sundance Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, SXSW, Full Frame and the San Francisco International Film Festival.
In her various media roles, she has had the pleasure of working with talented artists — in front of and behind the camera — from the worlds of film, TV, music, comedy and documentaries. Most notable, but not limited to, include George Clooney, Jon Hamm, Kenneth Branagh, Common, Alex Winter, Norman Lear, Ava DuVernay, Tina Brown, Katie Couric, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Madonna, James Taylor, Tony Bennett, Serena Williams, David Ortiz, Wanda Sykes, Russell Brand, Ross Greenburg, Andrew Davies and Mikael Solomon to name a few.
In the non-profit sector, she has directed publicity and corporate communications strategies that increased awareness and funding for organizations such as Young Audiences New York, Music Unites and Theatre Forward.
Marlea is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts New York, (BAFTA New York), Academy of Television Arts and Science, (ATAS), the NAACP and Rotary International.
